Have you ever wondered what the Milky Way—the celestial one, not the confection—would smell and taste like? Whiteface Lodge bartender Andrei Gherasoiu has. The recent SUNY–ESF grad concocted The Center of the Galaxy in homage to astronomers’ discovery of the presence of methyl formate, a chemical that helps flavor raspberries and rum, in dust clouds near the center of the Milky Way. Though not on the official bar menu in the lodge’s Peak 47 lounge, Gherasoiu suggests it to patrons who want something a little fruity but not overly sweet.
The Center of the Galaxy
INGREDIENTS
1 shot each of:
• Spiced rum
• St. Germain elderflower liqueur
• Passionfruit liqueur or Grand Marnier
• Chambord
Dash of orange bitters
DIRECTIONS
Mix ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker; shake and serve over ice. Garnish with a slice of lime.
