The Northville–Placid Trail turns 100 years old this year—and communities around the Adirondack Park are ready to celebrate. Below is a list of highlights; for trail information, stories and more events, visit www.npt100.com.
May 24–October 14
Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (theadkx.org), opens a two-year exhibit on the NPT’s history and current usage. The museum will offer a series of lectures and guided outings along the trail throughout the summer.
May 31–June 2
Northville’s celebration kicks off with activities at Waterfront Park’s NPT Arch—the trail’s southern terminus—on May 31 at 4 p.m. On June 1, National Trails Day, the community hosts a blowout with food, music, storytellers and exhibits, beginning at 9 a.m. at venues around town. The weekend ends back at Waterfront Park with a
closing ceremony on June 2 at 10 a.m.
July 14–28
Adirondack Hamlets to Huts (adkh2h.org) offers a guided Northville-Placid Trail Traverse. Hike the entire 138 miles or one or more 4-day sections of the trail, with a mix of lodging, glamping and camping.
June 25
The Adirondack Mountain Club spearheads a 5-day NPT maintenance project from Rock Lake to Mud Lake. For more NPT volunteer opportunities or to register, visit adk.org.
August 24
